Explanation

  • The motif comes from the 6th song of the Iliad. In the description of the Trojan War, it is said that Hector, son of King Priam, forces his way into the chamber of Helena to convince his younger brother Paris to go to war – and not just fiddle with his armour in the presence of his fair wife. Thorvaldsen returned to this motif several times.
