Thorvaldsens Museum

The museum was erected to house Bertel Thorvaldsen’s own artworks and his private collections, which he donated to the city of Copenhagen in 1838

It was designed by Michael Gottlieb Bindesbøll (1800-1856) and inaugurated in 1848

Thorvaldsen rests in a beautifully decorated burial chamber beneath the museum's inner courtyard
