Explanation
- Cupid was stung by a bee when picking a rose. He ran crying to his mother, Venus, who told him that the pain from the bee’s sting was as nothing compared to the suffering caused by his arrows of love. Thorvaldsen sculpted the relief the engraving reproduces in 1809.
