Explanation
- Orlando sought to find the Asian princess Angelica, who was at the court of the Roman emperor Charles the Great (742-814). Orlando became mad with fury when he realised that she was Medoro’s lover. Angelica and Medoro fled to China. This is the tale told by Ludovico Ariosto (1474-1533) in his epic narrative poem about the furious Roland, Orlando Furioso, 1516.
