Explanation

  • After studying in Leipzig, J.C. Reinhardt moved to Dresden in 1783, there making drawings and graphic images of landscapes and architecture. From 1789 he lived in Rome, where he developed a new German heroic landscape style inspired especially by Claude Lorrain’s classical landscapes from the 17th century.
