Minerva Adds a Soul to the Human Being Created by Prometheus, C70v
  • Production Date

    Ca. 1805
  • Type of Work / Object

    Drawing

Explanation

  • The drawing is preparatory to a relief dated 1807 with the same motif. It may have been Thorvaldsen’s early and most important Roman cicerone, the archaeologist Georg Zoëga, who inspired him to work on the Prometheus motif. Thorvaldsen has allowed his pen to follow the tentative and delicate pencil lines. In a spatial sense, the composition has also become more complex.
