As in its counterpart, C706, the motif in this drawing is a procession. But in addition, the drawing is distinguished by showing a longer, narrative sequence representing Bacchus and Ariadne, Bacchus driving in the biga, a Bacchantic procession, the drunken Silenus and finally Pan. The two muses correspond to two statues from Thorvaldsen’s youth, executed after an idea by N.A. Abildgaard.
