Explanation

• View of the island of Procida towards Cap Miseno and Vesuvius. The sea is rough from the wind. On the coast of Ischia in the foreground, a man and a woman are busy with a basket of fish.
  
  According to the inscription on the reverse, the painting was painted in Rome in 1835.
  
  The painting was stolen from Thorvaldsens Museum in 1887 and is still being sought.
